Marikina City is not only known as the “Shoe Capital of the Philippines.” It is also known as the home of many clans “who formed the community and shaped the city’s own culture and tradition.” Concerning this, there is an annual celebration that brings together all these native Marikeño clans for a whole day of fellowship. It is called the Angkan-Angkan Festival.
This festival is a celebration of kinship and solidarity among Marikeños. It is also a tribute to the families who settled in the region at least a hundred years ago. It is celebrated every April 8 of each year, coinciding with the celebration of Marikina’s “cityhood” founding anniversary. It features many tourism-enhancing activities and events that showcase the city’s historical roots, rich tradition, artistic and cultural potentials.
This year’s festival was one of the grandest and most colorful festivals held in Marikina City under the leadership of City Mayor Marcelino Teodoro.
