Wanted: a unifier president

/ 12:10 AM April 07, 2017

What we need is a president who can unite our fragmented country. But it seems ours, President Duterte, is unwilling to behave as a unifier.

Recently, the President went on a barrage of curses and boorish language against the Inquirer and ABS-CBN by branding the owners as “sons of b—–s.” He doesn’t seem to think that such public conduct and behavior is unpresidential. In fact, he seems to like—if not delight in—his rude and crude ways, in effect also dividing the nation.

The division he creates is evident among FB friends vehemently disagreeing in their reactions to his statements or actions, taking their disagreements personally, and then “deleting” each other. Many friendships and alliances have broken up because of him, his words, his actions. The country is becoming more fragmented and polarized because of his unpresidential style.

However, I pray that he will learn to temper his hatred towards those who guide and nudge our people to move forward. I call upon him to discipline his foul mouth and play down his harsh and boorish language. I am hopeful that he will learn the art of collaboration by creating a culture of team work and cooperation. Lastly, I am confident that he will truly lead and rally this nation to its best, and leave an indelible mark in our history as the country’s best president ever.
