Presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella is no Dietrich Bonhoeffer, the so-called Protestant saint who struggled to preach God in the godless world of Hitler. He ascended to the ranks of the saints and martyrs by confronting the the brutality and mass murders in Germany during Hitler’s time. For this, he paid dearly with his life; he was hanged.
In contrast, Abella has gone from evangelist to spin doctor of the most brutal president of the Philippines, so far.
Bonhoeffer was a staunch supporter of the resistance movement against the Nazi dictatorship and the execution of 6 million Jews in 1946. Abella, on the other hand, is a serial liar who twists the truth about the evils of the Duterte administration in order to make his master smell like a rose.
As a former preacher of the Gospel, Abella must have preached the truth about Jesus Christ many times. But the poor man has now bartered his soul to the power of darkness.
As a fellow Christian, my humble advise to Pastor Ernesto Abella is this: Quit the badly scripted zarzuela. Be on the side of the good angels before you kick the bucket. There is no better legacy you can leave behind to your children and grandchildren than having served the truth while you live.
Pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer died a martyr for the sake of the truth of his Lord and Master. There is still time for Abella to be the Filipino Bonhoeffer of our time.
