The majority of our politicians are just doing usual “politics” when they accuse a fellow politician, especially during election campaigns. They blow hot air, as they engage in political grandstanding and throw accusations at each other just to gain “pogi” points and get elected.
But when the elections are over, whether they end up winners or losers, their voices are nowhere to be heard—not even on the issues they raised during their campaigns. Where have they gone?
Sen. Antonio Trillanes seems to be unlike them, a cut above the rest. He is proving himself to be true to his words, heart and the Filipino people by consistently fighting for what he stood for prior and during campaigns. He is brave. The nation should pray for his safety.
The good senator’s persistent accusation against President Duterte’s hidden wealth is a lightning bolt that should jolt everyone to the core. We, as a people, certainly don’t want to believe the allegations. Otherwise, what right and moral ascendancy does this administration possess to rule the country?
The issue is not a matter of “public opinion,” it is public interest that requires President Duterte and Senator Trillanes to come clean or heroic—in court. The President’s advice and challenge to Trillanes is best, “Go to court or shut up.” But let the courts be free from “politics.”
