Let’s keep hope a-burning

I read Archbishop Soc Villegas’ open letter to Jaime Cardinal Sin (“Edsa is our people’s cry and God’s loving reply,” News) which was published in the Feb. 23 issue of the Inquirer.

I was reduced to tears. Bishop Soc’s letter was the cry of an orphaned child looking for a father to keep him safe, a father to give him comfort, a father to show him what to do in times of distress or danger.

And Cardinal Sin was all that. Somehow, it reminded me of the Bible passage on the crucifixion of Our Lord.  Immediately after Jesus was put to death, His disciples felt lost, fearful, went into hiding, keenly aware of the dangers they faced.  Until the glorious Jesus appeared to them, calmed their fears, gave them comfort and solace, while reminding them that they had a mission to fulfill.

The similarity is astounding. Let us not lose hope.
