Forceful argument for keeping historic sports complex
The Inquirer’s editorial titled “In the name of history” (Opinion, 1/5/17) gave a very forceful argument on why the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex (RMSC) must be preserved.
The RMSC evokes in me fond memories of thrills and excitement.
I was in third year high school when I became a member of Ateneo de Manila University’s AAL swimming team. When I was in fourth year high school, I became the assistant team manager of our school’s varsity track and field team. Competition was held at the oval stadium which also houses the football court. When I was in second year college, I was a member of our school’s varsity swimming team. We swam in the Olympic-size swimming pool.
Article continues after this advertisementThe RMSC was constructed in 1934. One of the teams that played in the newly constructed, historic basketball court was De La Salle University’s 1934-35 senior varsity basketball team skippered by my late father, Sergio P. Corpus. With the proposal to convert the RMSC into a commercial complex, the members of that team must now be turning in their graves.
I join the thousands who clamor for the preservation of the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.
