The story is told about a mother superior of a small congregation in a remote village. She was dying and she would not eat or drink anything. One of the nuns saw an Irish whisky in the kitchen and poured a generous amount of it into a glass of milk. When the mother superior tasted it, she took one more sip, then one more until she finished the whole glass! After she said her final instructions and goodbye, she closed her eyes. Suddenly she opened them again and said: “Oh, one more thing: No matter what happens to our congregation, don’t sell that cow!” And with that, she expired, with a smile!

The faith factor

The story is told about a man who went to a public library to borrow a book on suicide. When the librarian asked him why he was looking for this book, he said that he had lost all faith and hope, and that he wanted to end his life. Upon hearing this, the librarian replied, “We have a book, but I will not lend it out to you.” The man asked why not, whereupon the librarian said, “Tell me, who will return the book if you die?”

The story is told about a bishop who made a pastoral visit and was so impressed to see his picture hanging along with others on a wall of the dilapidated rectory. His picture was clean and spotless, but the others were covered with cobwebs. He thanked the priest for honoring him, whereupon the priest said: “Actually, Monsignor, I must confess that I hung your picture just an hour before you arrived.”

The story is told about a mother who told her little girl: “No matter what happens, hold on tight to my skirt so that you won’t get lost in this crowded mall.” The little girl dutifully complied as she held on and held on tight all throughout. Two hours later, there was an announcement coming from the mall’s public address system: “Calling on the parents or guardians of a lost little girl who would not let go of a red skirt in her hands!”
