Some candidates dishonor the names of their parents

Philippine Daily Inquirer

Filed Under: Elections, Benigno Aquino III

WITH DUE RESPECT TO SEN. NOYNOY Aquino, if I were him, I would be grateful to Sen. Manuel Villar for saying, ?When you?re looking at me, you?re looking at Manny Villar, not at my father and my mother.? (Inquirer, 10/30/09) With that comment, Villar gave him the opportunity to answer this way:

?When you look at me, you do not see only one face but three faces, mine, and those of my parents. And, because I always carry with me wherever I am the faces and genes of my parents, I can only do things that will make them happy and bring honor to their good name?to serve you, my dear countrymen, with utmost dedication and integrity as we pursue together a better and progressive Philippines for all Filipinos.?

I find it very unfortunate that, in their desperation, candidates do things that dishonor their beloved parents. At every opportunity, worthy sons and daughters should honor and give importance to their parents. In Noynoy?s case, it is just right that he invoked the memory of his parents, more so because their way of raising their children has borne good fruits.
