WHEN “Ondoy” flooded the metropolis, bags, sachets, wrappers made of plastic were quite evident as the major forms of trash left behind. Plastic, being non-biodegradable, does not dissolve on its own. Incorrect use and disposal of plastic products will surely clog our drainage systems and waterways.
Calling all concerned environmentalists: Please persuade our lawmakers to enact a law ASAP that will regulate, if not ban, production of plastic products, specifically those mentioned above.
Decades ago, we were accustomed to the multi-purpose “brown” bags for our shopping needs, storage of foodstuffs and even for discarding waste materials. At this juncture, they can be useful again. They may be costlier to make but at the end of the day, they will come out cheaper, safer and cleaner.
