MANILA, Philippines?A construction worker was killed while nine others were injured when the flooring of the building they were working on gave way Monday afternoon.

Alvin Ramos, 25, was crushed beneath falling debris and metal bars. He was declared dead on arrival at the Chinese General Hospital and Medical Center (CGHMC).

Case investigator Police Officer 3 Ernesto Corpuz of the La Loma police station said the accident happened at around 1:45 p.m. in a two-story building being constructed on Mauban Street, Barangay (Village) San Jose in Quezon City.

A worker, Sonny Resurreccion, told reporters that he and his fellow workers were about to pour cement on a section of the second floor when part of the flooring gave way.

?We immediately ran when we saw it coming down. Some of the workers on the second floor also jumped when it gave way. We immediately rushed our [injured] coworkers to the hospital,? he said in Filipino.

He added that the second floor probably gave way under their combined weight.

Some of the injured were treated for cuts and bruises at CGHMC.

Foreman Roel Padellono, on the other hand, was set to undergo an X-ray after doctors said his leg could be broken.

The other injured workers were identified as Marlon Briones, Aldrin Lodor, Bryan Briones, Manolito Serrano, Arnel Ramos, Philip Marbilla, Beaver Bogtay, and Christopher Nevado.

Resurreccion said there were more than 40 workers at the construction site.
