Bring back those UAAP school bands

Philippine Daily Inquirer

Filed Under: University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP), Basketball, Music

The basketball teams that competed in the UAAP in the past had well-trained brass bands purposely to inspire their players during games. The enthusiastic spectators then were treated to exciting ball games coupled with some entertaining music.

I remember that the University of the Philippines band played a popular music piece titled ?Love Letters in the Sand? during the half-time break of the game played between UP and Far Eastern University. The game was closely fought and some spectators were overly excited. However, the lovely music cooled down the cardiac jitters of many fans.

If I?m not mistaken, FEU has a band trained by a famous music composer. In fact, the FEU band, as well as other UAAP university bands, played good music that entertained many basketball fans. Indeed, it was like a mini musical concert.

I hope the practice of having a complete and well-trained band in the UAAP would be revived. It can be an added attraction to every UAAP basketball game.
