In the news item “Artist sketch of taxicab driver out” (Philippine Daily Inquirer, 12/1/08), an employee of the Land Transportation Franchise and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) was reported to have said that taxi meters can easily be bought. Can’t the LTFRB control the sale of taxi meters like the way it controls the issuance of car plates?
It is a fact that only taxicabs use taxi meters; then why not include or attach taxi meters in the issuance of the franchise or the car plate numbers? This way the proliferation of “colorum” [unregistered] taxis can be stopped and taxi meters cannot be transferred and can be regularly checked.
