China’s lax food safety standards

Philippine Daily Inquirer
First Posted 01:53:00 10/28/2008

Filed Under: milk crisis, Food, Safety of Citizens

I was not surprised to hear about the tainted milk and other food products from China.

My wife, who is Asian and partly Chinese, has decided she will no longer buy any food products that come from China.

China, where so much more of our food is increasingly being produced, has always had extremely lax food safety standards and a high corruption index.

Most executives and senior managers of large industries in China are Communist Party members. Communists have absolutely no concept of morality. They continue to persecute religious believers who possess ethical standards. Anything that advances the cause of communist absolute power is acceptable to a communist. When the communists became capitalists, anything that increases profits became acceptable.

Food from Taiwan (also known as “Republic of China”) and the mainly ethnically Chinese city-state of Singapore can be considered safe, as they generally adhere to much higher food safety standards. Even products from Hong Kong may be an acceptable risk, as apparently the regulations and standards adopted during British colonial times are still followed there.
