Filipino pool sensation Dennis "Robocop" Orcollo cemented his lofty billing as the world's No. 1 billiards player after winning the Guangzhou leg of the Guinness 9-Ball Tour yesterday at the Garden Hotel in Guangzhou, China.
The 31-year-old Orcollo defeated Taiwanese Wang Hung Hsiang, 11-9, in the finals to emerge champion.
The Bislig, Surigao del Sur native has earned extra ranking points for his recent success at the Guinness 9-ball tour and now looks ahead for the title in the grand finale of the Guinness tilt, slated Oct. 24 to 26 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Orcollo earned $15,000 for his win on Sunday while runner-up Wang received $6,000 for his efforts.
Yang Ching-shun and Alex Pagulayan each received $3,500 for reaching the semifinals.
On the road to the finals, Orcollo bested Yang, 9-1, while Wang eliminated Pagulayan, 9-8.
Three other Filipinos - Jeffrey de Luna, Elvis Calasang and Joven Bustamante - failed to advance to the money round.
Orcollo was ranked 10th in the tour's Order of Merit heading into the Guangzhou leg.
Only the top ten players in the tour's Order of Merit list will qualify for the lucrative Grand Final and a qualifying spot in the WPA World Pool Championship.
