Be man enough to accept loss, Marquez urged

JOHN NERY'S too voluble on his take, when he simply means some people doubt the legitimacy" of Manny Pacquiao's win. (Inquirer, 3/18/08) That skepticism should have been thrown Gloria Arroyo-Macapagal's way given the way of her ascent to power in 2001 and 2004 and her continued hold on power. Did Pacquiao make such a big hullabaloo when the referee in their first fight missed on counting out Juan Manuel Marquez for a clear Pacquiao TKO victory?
Now Marquez frets too much publicly on his supposedly being cheated of his rightful win. There's only one thing Marquez should learn from this thing: to accept defeat graciously and be man enough to admit that Pacquiao knocked him down--three times in the first fight, and once in the last "war." The judges saw it for Pacquiao, admitting, silently perhaps, that the fight could have gone either way (Pacquiao's or Marquez's).
What do Marquez--and the "sulsol" media want--a fight to the death sans gloves for the two "warriors"? Certainly that's too much lust for blood, affirming their people's sadistic bent, which isn't far removed from the mania of the Romans of yore for gore in the arena, in fights between a non-Roman and a beast, at first; then later between men.
I would suggest to Pacman not just to go easy on such sadistic lust, but to quit altogether while he's on top, to do a Lennox Lewis and leave the ring a world champion. If people with vested interests would so much as say that he should take on David Diaz next, Pacquiao should tell them to go to hell--or, failing that, to take on Diaz themselves. Let's see if they could take the punishment.--JENNIFER POTENCIANO, via e-mail
