We Filipinos should give Pacman the chance

01:10 AM September 24, 2014

This is in reaction to Estanislao Albano Jr.’s letter titled “Pacman retiring from wrong career” (Opinion, 8/22/14).

This is the beauty of democracy. We have the freedom of the press/expression. This is a free country where one can criticize a public official or private individual freely.

I am no fan of Manny Pacquiao but I consider him a hero who has brought honor to the country. If Manny is now the congressman of Sarangani province and wants to become a senator or vice president or president later, so be it! This is a free country. Manny has the money to spend millions of pesos for an election campaign. As he admitted, basketball is his first love and boxing his bread and butter.

Let us give Manny the chance. He is not retiring yet from boxing and we Filipinos should wait until he meets Floyd Mayweather inside the ring and bring home the bacon, so to speak, then finally retire.
