Aquino asked to fulfill commitment

10:16 PM July 29, 2013

I write again from the United Kingdom where the Philippines is gaining a reputation as “that country where that wretched elephant continues to be held captive despite repeated promises by the Philippine authorities to transport it to a sanctuary where it can roam free with others of its own species.”

And I write again. Specifically on behalf of a gagged and manacled elephant called Mali—who can’t speak for nor help herself . We therefore need to join in the fray in order to set things right. So why in the name of all that’s good and fair is she still in that zoo?! I understand that President Aquino had laid himself on the political line some time ago and decided to send Mali to a sanctuary. What then is this? A cat and mouse game? Elephants hate mice—and anyone with a conscience would hate these kinds of games. They’re cruel and pointless.

May we request the Inquirer to alert its readers and President Aquino to this hapless creature’s plight? Please?
