The pastor sounds pathetic

/ 12:10 AM April 27, 2017

Presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella served as an “evangelist.” Therefore, he ought to know and understand—and, to be sure, has preached—the value of truth and honesty. But getting onto President Duterte’s wagon has apparently changed him—for the worse.

In “Palace press office too slow? ‘Accuracy matters more’” (News, April 19), Abella defended Malacañang for taking time to make “official” explanations or justifications for his boss’ revolting remarks. “It’s not about speed, but accuracy,” he said.

The trouble with President Duterte is his fondness for ad libs and penchant for mouthing nonsense on matters affecting the national interest, even as he seldom consults with his Cabinet and readily shoots from the hips. Abella, obviously as his job demands, now prevaricates and sugarcoats everything to make his boss look less flippant, if not downright daft.

By golly, what does it profit a man, formerly known for probity by virtue of his vocation, that he must involve himself in such folly? The “pastor” does look and sound pathetic.
